Air New Zealand Lounges

Octa was involved from inception of the programme of works to redefine the Air New Zealand Lounges throughout Australasia, and to create world leading lounges.  Octa has subsequently completed lounges in Auckland, Sydney, and Brisbane, and is currently working on lounges in Melbourne and Perth.

Air New Zealand identified through Customer Research and Business Analysis, the need for a flexible generic design across all lounge tiers and locations that reflected the Air New Zealand spirit , while maintaining special elements in each that would surprise and enlighten customers each time they travel with the airline. The design guidelines needed to reflect a sense of place, be genuine and authentic, make use of natural textures, and be a showcase for “new” New Zealand.

Octa initiated the project with expressions of interest from a number of international architects.  Once the preferred architect (Gensler L.A) had been selected, a Design Book that could be applied to all lounges was developed and in conjunction the developed and detailed designs for Auckland Regional and International Lounges were carried out.

Local Architects were appointed to each project, through Gensler, to interpret local practice and obtain consents. The construction methodology for each lounge was developed by Octa to deal with the  unique circumstances at each location, particularly where temporary lounges were required, and the permanent works were to be carried out “airside.”

The resulting design and construction for each of the lounges achieved an average 86% customer satisfaction rating.
