The Ōmokoroa Water Treatment Plant upgrade and reservoir project is a critical infrastructure investment supporting growth and resilience for the local community. The works included a comprehensive upgrade of the existing treatment plant and construction of a new 3,500m³ concrete reservoir, increasing storage capacity and improving emergency preparedness.
Octa was engaged from the design phase through to completion, supporting development of the Principal’s Requirements, managing procurement and tendering, and overseeing delivery under an NZS 3916 Design and Construct contract. The role required strong coordination between design development and construction, with a focus on managing quality, risk, and alignment with operational outcomes.
Key challenges included integrating new works with live infrastructure, coordinating commissioning and network interfaces, and maintaining performance alignment under a contractor-led design model. The project also required careful navigation of Resource Management Act requirements, achieved within an existing designation to minimise programme risk.
Close collaboration with stakeholders, including neighbouring landowners and local hapū, supported access, cultural considerations, and project delivery. The result is a resilient, future-ready water supply asset for the community.
