Octa was engaged by the Clutha Community Hub Trust to undertake a feasibility investigating the possible options for developing the existing Balclutha War Memorial Hall as a Community Hub.
The Clutha Community Hub was an exciting new build for the Clutha District, which is approximately one hour’s drive south of Dunedin. The Hub replaced the existing Clutha District War Memorial Hall which was built in Balclutha in 1948. The new building is approximately 3,200sqm footprint and comprises of a ground floor area and mezzanine.
The new build is home to a vibrant new business hub and comprises a 478 retractable seating auditorium, 38 seat Cinema, I-Site, Plunket facility, learning spaces, war memorial wing, business co-working zone and 12 bookable meeting rooms varying in size to host 2 to 30 people. There is a commercial kitchen located on the ground floor. The build was complete late 2023.
The Trust had been successful in obtaining a significant amount of funding with the support of Central and Local Government funding with multiple other funding agencies making up the balance for a successful project to be completed.
- A viewing Gallery on the Mezzanine Level overlooks the Clutha River/Mata-Au and historic Balclutha Bridge and provides a Gallery area allowing function space with kitchen and entertaining facilities.
- A new Cinema will be one of the ground floor tenants in which Clutha residents have had to travel to Dunedin or Gore for the past 3 decades.
