Octa was engaged by the Dunedin City Council to provide full project management services for the redevelopment of this significant heritage building.
The project encompassed both operational improvements and much needed regulatory upgrades to the buildings which make up the historic Dunedin Town Hall complex. Refurbishment of entrances, upgrading and refurbishment of existing spaces, and linking new and existing conference facilities along with the construction of a new foyer building in Harrop Street were all part of the project scope.
In addition to new services infrastructure, including installation of heating and ventilation systems, the project involved the construction of new spaces and refurbishment of existing highly valued performance spaces. Octa determined and managed the staging of the project, in particular to enable continued use of performance and conference spaces during the early stages of construction.
During 2011 Octa led a complete design review of Stage 2 of this project. This was requested by the Council in order to identify possible savings without significantly impacting on the required functionality. This task was achieved, and the re-documented solution delivered to the contractor without impacting on the overall construction programme.
Octa also managed the fit-out contracts for auditorium seating, kitchen equipment and theatre services to enable the complete project to be handed back to the Dunedin public.
