Tauranga City Council identified the need for an artificial football turf at Links Avenue Reserve to respond to increasing participation, limited winter field capacity, and weather-related disruptions. The project delivers a high-performance, all-weather facility supporting both community and regional-level football.
Octa supported delivery through contractor procurement and construction, providing project management across programme, budget, risk, and stakeholder coordination. The facility incorporates one of New Zealand’s first sugar-cane-based turf systems, aligning with sustainability objectives and long-term asset performance.
The project also included significant upgrades to supporting infrastructure, including carparking and three waters networks. Drainage and soakage systems were integrated into the design to manage runoff and protect surrounding assets, with improvements coordinated across multiple Council asset areas.
Stakeholder engagement was central to the project, with ongoing communication maintained with the local community, sports groups, and mana whenua. Cultural considerations were incorporated throughout delivery, supporting a respectful and inclusive project environment.
Through a collaborative and proactive approach, the project successfully navigated site challenges and achieved a high-quality sporting facility, providing lasting benefits for the Tauranga community.
