Octa was engaged to provide full project management and act as Engineer to the Contract, from feasibility study through to project completion.
Due to the cost of earthquake proofing their existing administration buildings, Napier Port decided to build a purpose built new facility to house the operations and administration staff, including pilot and Harbour Master facilities.
The project was to be designed as an architectural representation of the Napier Port organisation and be located on the Port complex. This required integration into Port operations and infrastructure also allowing access for visitors and public.
The selected site is reclaimed land on the foreshore requiring significant foundations and protection against potential tsunami. There was also a requirement for continued operation during any civil emergency.
