New Zealand Police

Octa was appointed project manager and engineer to the contract for the refurbishment of the NZ Police owned building in Great South Road. The work included a full seismic retrofit and upgrade of building services infrastructure including new sprinkler system, UPS, passive fire, and mechanical services.

The fit-out includes critical operations for the Police including key communications centres for NZ Police and FENZ, a forensics laboratory that is considered one of the largest and best equipped in Australasia, a forensic photography studio and key amenities including a commercial café, fully equipped gym and large meeting suite with marae space.

The project involved relocation of key work groups from within the building and across Auckland. Octa managed the relocation of external work groups and ensured continuity of operations for those that remained in the building. Octa conducted weekly relocation meetings with NZ Police work groups, ICT teams, furniture and building contractors at the critical stage of the project to ensure work group relocations were intricately coordinated. This proved effective in identifying and addressing unique risks associated with each work group.

This project was the only NZ Police project granted exemption to work through Covid Alert Level 4. Octa acted promptly establishing protocols with both the main contractor and NZ Police work groups within the building to ensure all parties could work effectively through the lockdown whilst ensuring Health and Safety maintained top priority. Meetings were successfully run remotely to maintain dialogue between key project stakeholders and ensure critical project processes were not disrupted.
