The client’s goal was to replace the previous facility with a modern processing plant, significantly increasing throughput and labour productivity, and at the same time lowering energy consumption. In short, develop a state of the art facility that would be the flagship for SFF.
Octa worked closely with Silver Fern Farms corporate and engineering to ensure the appropriate technology and plant layout were incorporated. The result has been an extremely efficient plant with high labour productivity, and low energy and water consumption. New technologies have been incorporated that have resulted in new markets for Silver Fern Farms in Asia and North America.
This plant is the first large beef facility built in New Zealand since the 1960’s. Given it was not based on other New Zealand installations it was potentially a high risk project which was successfully managed by Octa.
Octa’s involvement continued through commissioning to completed handover.
