Octa began working with the Board of Trustees in late 2019 to upgrade isolated areas of the school due to roll growth and the need to rationalise some blocks. The project entails relocation and demolition of current classrooms, as well as the existing administration block, to make way for redevelopment with the following scope:
-
Block R (3 classrooms) temporary relocation onsite to clear site for new development
-
Block E (3 classrooms) ILE upgrade, internal works only
-
New 7 Classroom equivalent block with an intended flexible use for the senior school.
-
Block A (3 Classrooms and administration) relocation, portions to remain onsite and remaining to relocate offsite
-
New construction of Block A with new 3 classrooms (ILE) and administration block acting as the statement building to the front of the school.
The design process was managed to create teaching environments in keeping with the school’s unique Māori immersion pedagogy and discussions with stakeholders and community were key to making this redevelopment a success.
Octa’s role involves management across all the project phases including design (concept to detailed), cost control, maintaining individual and master programmes, works procurement, construction observation and contract management, including coordination of consultant and contractor teams.
Staged work was programmed to fit with the School’s need to remain fully operational throughout, and always with a focus on the safety of students, staff and the wider community.
