Octa provided full project management services for the redevelopment of Hornby High and Hornby Primary Schools which share a common boundary. Hornby Primary’s redevelopment included relocation and refurbishment of existing buildings, site works and a new administration block.
Hornby High School has been almost completely rebuilt to include a whare, administration block, gymnasium, technology block and teaching spaces to replace the (1975) temporary buildings.
The completion of Hornby High Separable Portion 1 in June 2018 saw new blocks officially opened and the gymnasium, technology and administration fully operational. Hornby High Separable Portion 2 includes construction of 3 new Homebase Buildings
When the High School project was completed, 90% of the School’s existing buildings had been demolished and replaced with 45 new classrooms and modern facilities.
-
Hornby High is the first MOE project to use a ground-source heating system (underfloor)
-
Staging the work was made more complex with the High School temporarily using a Primary School building
-
Both sites remained fully operational while construction was carried out
-
While the schools were developed under two separate contracts with two separate contractors, they were considered together in the design, staging and decanting processes.
