Christchurch Town Hall
Christchurch Town Hall refurbishment and seismic remediation is now two thirds of the way through a three year contract. Octa has a two person full time presence on site taking the Project Manager and Supervisor role under the NEC 3 form of contract. At around $133M, the project is a heritage listed building and holds a place of special significance to the people and city of Christchurch.
Following damage from the earthquakes the project includes the installation of circa 1,100 jet grout piles beneath the floors and foundations which retard lateral spread of the soil beneath the structures.
New, 5,400 cu metres of heavily reinforced concrete slabs and columns are being constructed with some 67 tonnes of reinforcement.
The Limes Room building will be supported on temporary works whilst columns are broken out and jacks installed to enable re-levelling of the structure. Once completed the loads will be transferred back to the temporary works whilst the old columns are demolished and re cast, once again taking the load.
The project is administered using the Christchurch City Council collaboration tool, Conject. This is web based system used for the storage, retrieval, distribution and review of all contract documents as well as being structured to enable the administration of the NEC processes.
This is one of the biggest heritage/conservation projects undertaken in Christchurch.
The main auditorium is being restored and strengthened to 100% NBS.
