Air NZ Wgtn Domestic Lounge

Construction commenced in December 2018 to upgrade Wellington’s passenger facilities to provide a new open plan kitchen and lounge. While the kitchen refurbishment is scheduled for completion in July 2019, the main lounge isn’t due for completion until December 2019.

Air New Zealand has engaged Octa to project manage all facets of the redevelopment. In the lead up to this major refurbishment, Octa has managed several enabling projects around relocating airline personnel into temporary offices, and passengers into temporary lounge spaces while the new lounge is being refurbished.

The project is both complex and time critical.  The domestic terminal needs to remain operational during construction, and temporary lounges are being provided to ensure a high level of customer services is kept.

Safety of customers and aircraft is a key priority. Specific strategies are being developed with the contractor and airlines to mitigate risk including unique site establishment plans and access methods during different stages of construction, and detailed timing of the works.

Daily liaison with the airport is critical, ensuring all parties are well informed to enable co-ordination of activities such as personnel relocation, material delivery, and concrete pour timings with the airport operations.
