Friday, 28 August 2026, marked a significant milestone for healthcare in the lower South Island with the Blessing by Edward Ellison, Upoko of Otakou Runaka, of the New Dunedin Hospital Outpatient Building and the gifting to it of the name Te Whare Matutu. This was followed by the formal Official Opening of the Outpatient Building by Minister of Health, Hon Simeon Brown. This represents a major step forward in the delivery of modern healthcare services for the Otago and Southland regions including the Queenstown Lakes area.
