CHT Acacia Park Rest Home

Octa provided full project management and Engineer to the Contract for CHT Acacia Park in the Western Bay of Plenty. The existing facility comprised a mixture of bedroom and apartment styled rooms for 41 residents. The design proposal called for this to increase to 60 residents in similar accommodation, including special purpose rooms for bariatric patients and six resident lounges with other general facilities including hairdressers, fitness rooms and family rooms.

The project consisted the complete redevelopment of the existing facility, in three distinct stages to allow the client to maintain operational status for a minimum of 28 residents at a time. This was carried out over a sloping site and called for high levels of ground retention, including containment of existing established trees.

The development included maintaining general services whilst incorporating new hot water, heating, power and fire services throughout the construction process. This was admirably handled with the assistance of Watts & Hughes Construction Ltd who worked particularly well with Octa to achieve all the set targets, both programme and financial, despite Covid delays. The full occupancy of the building was delivered six weeks ahead of the target Covid programme.

The success of the project can be attributed to the up-front design management and the open communication between all parties leading to minimal variations in scope and budget.

The CHT projects provide an opportunity to apply Octa’s expertise across multiple sites in a comprehensive strategic development programme for one Client. Working closely with our Consultant partners, Octa is developing a standardised design concept that can be introduced whatever the site conditions. This gives surety to design outcomes and cost.
