Westlake Girls' High School Events Centre
23 Oct 2019
Octa has been engaged to work with the Board of Trustees on a new Events Centre. In July 2019 Teak was awarded the construction contract, and demolition of the existing school hall began in October. Old floor slab and foundations are expected to be clear by November 2019 and new build work can begin.
The new building will be constructed adjacent to the existing music rooms on the site of the old school hall and will provide Theatre facilities for the future. It will be a concrete panel and lightweight steel frame construction package with completion due in time for Term 1 in 2021.
The ground floor will seat 952 students, and the mezzanine 374. The old hall was built in 1957, and with a capacity of 443 students, could seat the entire school. With a current roll of 2,300 students, the new centre will be able to seat at least half the school.
The Event Centre will also feature a large stage, glass foyer, back-stage space and percussion room. It will be used for music, drama and dance performances, assemblies, ceremonies, alumni events, and parent information evenings.
