Wellington Town Hall Refurbishment
02 May 2019
Congratulations to the Wellington City Council for the approval of the seismic strengthening and refurbishment of the iconic Wellington Town Hall
The Grade 1 listed building is more than a century old and was closed to the public in 2013 because it was earthquake prone. By law it must be either demolished or strengthening must be underway by the end of 2019. Demolition is not an option because of its heritage status.
Octa Director John Burrell commented that the project continued Octa’s long tradition with heritage and performing arts facilities, including the successful refurbishments of the Christchurch and Dunedin Town Halls.
